List of Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated Sites

Published by data.ct.gov | State of Connecticut | Catalog Last Checked: August 02, 2026 at 05:29 PM | Dataset Last Updated: July 24, 2026
Data to create the List of Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated Sites is based on records from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s online REACT portal at: https://deep-react.service.ct.gov/s/ The REACT application tracks environmental cleanups related to contaminant releases and contaminated properties. Data exported from that application creates this data set. This data set is made available to provide downloadable data about known environmental cleanups generally and to fulfill the information-sharing obligations of Connecticut General Statutes 22a-133c and 22a-134f related to lists of hazardous waste disposal sites and hazardous waste facilities in Connecticut. DEEP staff and authorized public users update REACT data and upload documents to document cleanup progress. For more information visit: https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Remediation--Site-Clean-Up/Remediation-Site-Clean-Up . Public documents uploaded to REACT are also available either electronically in the DEEP Online Document Search Portal at: https://filings.deep.ct.gov/DEEPDocumentSearchPortal/ or in DEEP’s Records Center at DEEP Headquarters, 79 Elm Street, Hartford: https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/About/Environmental-Quality-Records-Records-Center-File-Room Each Row represents a release or property that is undergoing investigation and cleanup or has completed cleanup. Data to compile the list was gathered for each location (“site”) from information provided to DEEP to address the requirements of various regulatory cleanup programs. Sites may be in multiple cleanup programs and therefore may be listed more than once. Some sites have been fully cleaned up while others have limited information about the environmental conditions. The list includes only sites that have been reported to CT DEEP or US EPA. There may be errors in the dataset although we strive to minimize them. Examples of errors may include misspelled or incomplete addresses and/or missing data. For additional information about this dataset please contact DEEP.REACT@ct.gov. Additional information for sites within the Hazard Notification program can be found at: https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Remediation--Site-Clean-Up/Significant-Environmental-Hazard-Program/Significant-Environmental-Hazards Significant Environmental Hazard Sites GIS Map: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/9c100aa21fbe4ee180df9942d000f676 Details on columns which reference ELUR: Environmental Land Use Restriction (ELUR) or Notice and Use Limitation (NAUL) are used to minimize the risk of human exposure to pollutants and hazards to the environment by preventing specific uses or activities at a property or a portion of a property.
