LANDFIRE Remap 2016 Public Model Ready Events HI

Metadata Updated: September 24, 2025

The LANDFIRE (LF) Remap Public Model Ready Events feature class is a compilation of natural disturbance and vegetation/fuel treatment events that occurred between 1999 and 2016. The Public Model Ready Events feature class includes a subset of the full suite of data that were used in the production of LANDFIRE 2008 Refresh (LF 1.1.0), LANDFIRE 2010 (LF 1.2.0), LANDFIRE 2012 (LF 1.3.0), LANDFIRE 2014 (LF 1.4.0), and LANDFIRE Remap (LF 2.0.0) program deliverables. According to agreements between LANDFIRE and its data contributors, certain proprietary or otherwise sensitive data were removed to create this publicly available version. For more information about the data sources included and excluded from this release, please consult the Source_Code look up table found at: http://www.landfire.gov/publicevents.php. The data were collected from disparate sources including federal, state, and local, and private organizations, and systematically converted to the standard LANDFIRE Events format. The data in the Public Model Ready Events feature class were analyzed to eliminate geospatial or information content errors. The Public Model Ready Events feature class was reduced to only one unique event per year per location. In order to produce the Model Ready layer, a series of topologies were created with the Raw Events data to identify areas of overlap between polygons within the same year. The topology errors were corrected using a standard hierarchy of LANDFIRE Event types, which were organized so the events with the greatest impact on vegetation and/or fuels composition and structure were ranked highest. To correct topology errors, polygons with lower ranked events were merged into polygons with higher ranked events where they overlapped. When there were multiple perimeters for the same event one perimeter was chosen. The selected perimeter was not necessarily from a public data set so the Public Model Ready Events feature class may be missing information on events that appear in the Public Raw Events feature class. The result is a layer which contains only one event per year for a location. Reforestation (seeding and planting) events were analyzed further to remove all but the most recent event at each location. Point derived polygons and polygons less than 0.02 acres in size were removed.
