Lake Erie hydroacoustic vessel comparison data: research vessels vs. uncrewed surface vessel

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 04:20 AM | Dataset Last Updated: January 26, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset is from a vessel comparison study between four motorized research vessels (RVs) and one uncrewed surface vessel (USV) including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) RV Almar and RV Grandon, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) RV Muskie, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) RV Erie Explorer and a wind propelled USV (SD-1080; Saildrone Inc.). Paired acoustic data were collected along 2-km transects during five sampling events distributed across the U.S. waters of Lake Erie. Additional information related to environmental conditions and vessel stability was also collected. Data were used to compare and explain variations in acoustic measurements between RVs and the USV.
