Kings Mountain National Military Park FFI Fire Effects Monitoring Data, NPS (2025)
Fire effects monitoring data collected at Kings Mountain National Military Park in South Carolina. The data were collected during spring/summer/fall field seasons by the fire effects monitoring crew out of Great Smoky Mountains National Park from 1999 - 2025. Data collected from 50 x 20 m forest plots include post burn char height and scorch measurements for overstory trees and severity ratings for substrate and vegetation, tree inventory to obtain density and basal area, fuel load using Brown's method for inventorying surface fuels and biomass, seedling density, as well as cover point method along 50 m transects for estimating shrub, tree seedling, and herbaceous plant cover. Data collected from fuels transects are 50 ft Brown's transects for inventorying surface fuels and biomass. Photo points are associated with all plot and transect data, contact Fire Ecologist for more information.
