JELA Hemispherical Photography 2013
A LiDAR survey was conducted at Jean Lafitte National Park on Mar 5, 2013. In an effort to document canopy condition at time-of-survey, Gulf Coast Network (GULN) staff collected hemispherical photographs and photographs from plot center facing north, east, south, west and cross-plot from the north. A GPS position was acquired at each plot center with a Trimble GeoXh connected to a Zepher external antenna and using Terrasync field software. The camera and GPS were mounted to a 2m tripod range pole, so that the face of the camera lens was offset from the antenna (and the GPS position) by only a few inches in both horizontal and vertical planes. In addition to general conditional records, photos might be used in the software package Gap Light Analyzer (GLA) to systematically estimate canopy closure.
