Island of Hawai‘i, genetic identification of caterpillars collected and reared from host plants, 2020
The data contains the sampling details and taxonomic identification information for larval Lepidoptera (caterpillars; n = 47) collected from the Island of Hawai‘i during Hawaiian hoary bat (‘ōpe‘ape‘a) ecological studies. Larval samples were genetically sequenced with a common DNA barcoding marker on the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase gene. Caterpillars were genetically identified using public databases and the insect barcode reference library also part of this data release "Island of Hawai‘i and Maui, bat diet insect DNA barcode reference library, 2016-2020". The data represents caterpillars collected from host plants.
The GenBank accession numbers identify DNA sequences produced from this study, deposited on the NIH-NLM-NCBI Genbank database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/). Accession numbers PX635382 through PX635428.
