Iowa Median Household Income in the Past 12 Months (ACS 5-Year Estimates)
This dataset provides estimates for median household income in past 12 months for State of Iowa, individual Iowa counties, incorporated places (i.e., cities) and census tracts within Iowa. A household includes all people who occupy a housing unit as their usual residence, regardless of their relationship to each other. The median household income is the income level that divides households within a geographic area and time period into two equal groups. Half of all households have incomes above this level, and half have incomes below it. The median represents the middle value in the distribution of household incomes. It's calculated by sorting all household incomes from lowest to highest and then identifying the middle value. Median household income is inflation adjusted based on last year in data collection period. Data is from the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, Five Year Estimates, Table B19013. The five year data are collected over a period of 60 months for all geographic areas. Estimates are more reliable for smaller areas (under 20,000 population). Median household income should not be aggregated across multiple geographies, and years. Also, comparisons should not be made between overlapping data collection periods (e.g. 2012-2016 and 2013-2017).
