Iowa Incorporated and Census Designated Places

Published by Data Hub Administration | State of Iowa | Catalog Last Checked: June 09, 2026 at 06:20 PM | Dataset Last Updated: April 02, 2026 at 05:11 PM
This dataset provides census codes for Incorporated and Census Designated Places in Iowa. An incorporated place is a city. A Census Designated Place (CDP) is a "place" that looks and feels like a city or town to the people who live there, but lacks a formal municipal government. Because these areas aren't legally incorporated, they don't have their own city halls, mayors, or local ordinances. Data source is U.S. Census Bureau, ANSI and FIPS Codes, Place Table.
