Iowa Asbestos Permits

Published by Env. Health and Contractor | State of Iowa | Catalog Last Checked: June 12, 2026 at 07:50 PM | Dataset Last Updated: June 10, 2026 at 12:33 PM
This dataset provides data on all asbestos permits in Iowa. Contractors who perform asbestos abatement or removal must obtain an asbestos permit from the Iowa Division of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Asbestos is well recognized as a health hazard. Asbestos fibers associated with these health risks are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Breathing asbestos fibers can cause a buildup of scar-like tissue in the lungs and result in loss of lung function that often progresses to disability and death. Worker exposure to asbestos hazards are addressed in specific OSHA standards that reduce the risk to workers by requiring that employers provide personal exposure monitoring to assess the risk and hazard awareness training for operations where there is any potential exposure to asbestos.
