This dataset includes public statements that have been issued by the Cook County Independent Inspector General. The Inspector General is authorized to issue public statements in two circumstances: (1) When an investigation that exonerates an individual who is publicly known to have been under investigation, where the subject requests such a statement (2) When an investigation concerns inefficient or wasteful management, as opposed to individual misconduct or illegality. Before issuing a public statement involving a finding of inefficient or wasteful management, the Inspector General must share the summary report and public statement with the head of the department and elected official whose office the findings pertains, allow the recipients 10 business days to respond, and attach any such response to the Inspector General's public statement (and any subsequent reply by the Inspector General) upon issuance.
