Impervious Viewer in the District for Potential SRC Generation

Metadata Updated: November 27, 2025

This viewer shows impervious areas such as parking lots, driveways, and buildings in the District. The Department of Energy and Envrionment (DOEE) makes this viewer available to help users identify potential sites for Stormwater Retention Credit (SRC) generation. The impervious areas have not been vetted for their suitability for SRC retrofits.Users can generate and sell Stormwater Retention Credits (SRCs) to earn revenue when installing new, voluntary green infrastructure (GI) or remove impervious surfaces in the District’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) area. These projects can generate High-Impact SRCs because they reduce harmful stormwater runoff in the areas of DC that need this the most. When users generate High-Impact SRCs, they can lock in a sale price by selling to DOEE through the SRC Price Lock Program, and they'll still have the option to sell SRCs in the open market to regulated properties that have stormwater management requirements.DOEE offers several resources to help users get started. Generate SRCs on individual's personal property, or start an SRC-aggregating business to generate SRCs from multiple properties, often in partnership with other site owners. Visit doee.dc.gov and search SRC for more information.
