Impervious Surface Land Connecticut 2023

Published by State of Connecticut | State of Connecticut | Catalog Last Checked: June 09, 2026 at 08:13 PM | Dataset Last Updated: May 28, 2026
This dataset contains statewide impervious surface vector features for the State of Connecticut. The dataset was developed from 2023 source imagery to provide a high-resolution, consistent geospatial representation of impervious land cover. The impervious surface component includes mapped features such as buildings, roads, driveways, parking areas, sidewalks, pavement, swimming pools, paved recreation surfaces, and bridges. Feature capture and attribution were performed according to defined class-specific interpretation and minimum mapping specifications. The dataset is intended to support statewide mapping, infrastructure planning, land cover assessment, hydrologic and stormwater analysis, emergency management, and other GIS-based applications. This dataset package contains three feature files. The Land file is a polygon dataset in which each feature contains the fields FID (unique identifier), Shape (geometry), and CateTitle (feature classification). CateTitle values and their definitions are all provided in the Entity and Attribute Information section of this metadata record ClassDefinitionRoadEdge of roadway, including curbs. In the case where roads overlap or where they are elevated from the ground, the elevated/overlapping surface(s) are classified as bridges, and the terrain surface is classified as road. Roads are greater than 8 feet wide and 50 feet long.SidewalkA paved path for pedestrians, typically running parallel to a street. Private sidewalks include sidewalks outside the right of way of public property, for example, a sidewalk that leads from the edge of a driveway up to the front door of a house. Public sidewalks are defined as those that typically reside within the public right of way, parallel to a street. Sidewalks take priority to driveway, or other paved surface, in the landcover feature classifications. Sidewalks are greater than 3 feet wide and 10 feet long.PavementAny paved surface that does not fall into the specific impervious feature classifications. As with other features, must be greater than 100 square feet.DrivewayPaved surface from edge of curb to structure. In cases where sidewalk is overlapping, sidewalk takes priority. Greater than 8 feet wide and 10 feet long.ParkingPaved surface with visible parking lanes. Greater than 500 square feet.BuildingThe geometric footprint of each building greater than 100 square feet. Buildings are deriv
