Imagery data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve

Metadata Updated: June 5, 2024

This reference contains the imagery data used in the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Orthophotos, raw imagery, and scanned aerial photos are common files held here.

Sets of both true-color (TR) and color infrared (CIR) aerial imagery were acquired in July 2014 for the JELA vegetation mapping project using a plane-mounted digital camera. This imagery became the primary source for image interpretation and mapping. The aerial imagery was collected at a pixel resolution of 15.24 centimeters The JELA flight plan consisted of 20 flight lines. To achieve a successful set of aerial imagery for vegetation mapping purposes, 3 flight missions were flown, collecting a total of 659 frames of imagery. The initial flight mission collected CIR imagery and was flown on July 25, 2014. Because of local weather patterns in the available collection window, some intermittent cloud coverage captured by the imagery was unavoidable. Efforts were made to ensure complete coverage by repeating the flight mission for a portion of the flight plan on July 26, 2014; this second flight mission repeated 10 flight lines. A total of 500 frames of CIR imagery were collected with the 2 CIR flight missions. The third flight mission collected TC imagery covering the entire study area on July 26, 2014.
