High-resolution small uncrewed aircraft system (sUAS) and terrestrial lidar system (TLS) lidar datasets for border security within San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge, AZ documenting invasive vegetation management and stream restoration, 2024
The U.S. Geological Survey collected low-altitude airborne lidar data via a small uncrewed aircraft system (sUAS) and terrestrial lidar system (TLS) for quantifying surficial conditions along the Black Draw ephemeral stream channel in the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge (SBNWR) in Arizona in February 2024. Data collection was during the initial stages of mesquite removal from selected portions of the historic active channel conducted by USFWS contractors. The sUAS lidar point clouds were post-processed kinematic (PPK) corrected to a concurrently operating Trimble R12i Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) base station and each point was assigned Red, Green, Blue (RGB) image values using the integrated camera module. sUAS lidar data was collected and processed using Yellowscan CloudStation software (v. 2602.0.3) to derive a three-dimensional (3D) point cloud (.las file format). TLS data was collected and post-processed in the RiScan Pro v. 2.6.2 software. TLS scans collected each day were aggregated into daily projects and processed separately. The data within each daily project was then exported as a .las formatted point cloud for additional data processing within CloudCompare (version 2.10). Data was then tiled into 10 zones to ensure data sizes were less than 2 GB. Zone 1A – Zone 1D represents data collected February 13 – 15. Zone 2A – Zone 2D represents data collected February 26 – 28 and Zone 3A – Zone 3B represents data collected February 29.
