High-Resolution Imagery of the North Santiam River, Oregon: Orthomosaic Index Shapefile

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed high-resolution orthomosaics from natural color aerial photographs of the North Santiam River in the Willamette River Basin in Oregon for 2022 and 2023. The North Santiam River flows from its headwaters in the Cascade Range to confluence with the South Santiam River near Jefferson, Oregon. Aerial photographs were collected by the Civil Air Patrol from a Cessna 182 aircraft with a Waldo Air XCam Ultra 50 imaging system. The imaging system consists of two oblique-mounted Canon EOS 5DS R cameras that are triggered simultaneously. Aerial photographs were collected between September 14 and September 22, 2022, from Detroit Lake to Stayton, and again between July 7 and July 13, 2023, from Detroit Lake to Jefferson. The USGS processed aerial photographs with photogrammetric software to produce orthomosaic imagery with approximately 10-centimeter spatial resolution. This data release includes the original aerial photographs, processed orthomosaics, and an orthomosaic polygon index shapefile. The orthomosaic files are stored as Cloud-Optimized Geotifs (COGs) with JPEG compression to facilitate web visualization. The following documentation describes the orthomosaic index shapefile for the North Santiam River. This work was conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and as part of the USGS Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) to support hydrogeomorphic analyses and water availability studies.
