Harmful Algal Bloom Toxins in Marine Organisms Across Alaska

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 29, 2026 at 05:48 PM | Dataset Last Updated: August 26, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset contains screening results for harmful algal bloom (HAB) toxins saxitoxin (STX) and domoic acid (DA) in marine birds, mammals, fish, and invertebrates. Samples collected by the USGS, or submitted by partners and stakeholders, were screened using commercially available enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). A subset of samples with detectable STX levels were subsequently analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The dataset consists of a single table containing the ELISA results for STX and DA, and HPLC summary results for STX congeners. Some of these data have been previously published in other USGS data releases: https://www.doi.org/10.5066/P9UNY0FR and https://www.doi.org/10.5066/P9OK4I8M
