H-Alpha Chromosphere Observed from Big-Bear Solar Observatory

Published by DOC/NOAA/NESDIS/NGDC > National Geophysical Data Center, NESDIS, NOAA, U.S. Department of Commerce | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: April 12, 2026 at 06:12 AM | Dataset Last Updated: January 02, 2001 at 12:00 AM
These datasets consist of full-disk, daily photographs of the sun taken at the H-alpha wavelength. Collection includes a variety of H-alpha photographic datasets contributed by a number of national and private solar observatories located worldwide. Solar observations in hydrogen-alpha (656.3 nm) reveal the structure and dynamics of chromospheric features including prominences, filaments, plague, filaments and the chromospheric network.
