Published by Bureau of Reclamation | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 07, 2026 at 11:00 PM | Dataset Last Updated: August 05, 2026 at 10:17 AM
Gunnison, Colorado Cooperative CoAgMET Weather Station - Colorado State University (CSU) (GUN01) calculated daily Growing Degree Days. Growing Degree Days (GDDs) are calculated in degrees Fahrenheit using a base temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit. GDDs are measure of heat accumulation used by horticulturists, gardeners, and farmers to predict plant and animal development rates such as the date that a flower will bloom, an insect will emerge from dormancy, or a crop will reach maturity. GDD(50 Deg) is calculated as (Max Air Temp + Min Air Temp) / 2 - Base Temperature, where the Base Temperature (Tbase) is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Any temperature below Tbase is set to Tbase before calculating the average.
