Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Surveys in the San Francisco Volcanic Field (SFVF) in northern Arizona, USA from 2016 and 2023
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys were conducted within the San Francisco Volcanic Field (SFVF) in Northern Arizona from October 8th-15th in 2016 and August 4th-8th in 2023. These surveys collected GPR data using variable antenna frequencies and survey styles in varied geologic terrains. The main focus of this data collection was on volcanic terrains in the SFVF, including lava flows, nearby to a volcanic edifice, and over significant tectonic features in volcanic terrain. The first field site was near SP Crater, where GPR was collected near the cinder cone, at the edges of its associated lava flow, and over nearby geologic terrains and sedimentary structural features. The second field site these notes the 'Double Crater Flow', which is located East of Sunset Crater, and GPR data was collected near the edge of the flow which was covered with pyroclastic materials and overlays at least one older underlying lava flow. The survey types conducted include Common-Offset, Common-Midpoint, and Wide Angle Reflection and Refraction (WARR) surveys. The GPR systems used are a 400 MHz GSSI GPR antenna, as well as 50 MHz and 100 MHz PulseEkko GPR antennas.
