Gravity and physical property data of the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes region, Mojave Desert, California
This data release presents point data associated with studies to understand the crustal structure of the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes epicentral region and the interaction of the northeast-to-east-striking Garlock fault with the northwest-striking faults of the Eastern California Shear Zone and Walker Lane. Data include principal fact information for new gravity measurements collected by the U.S. Geological Survey from 2016 to 2025, new measurements collected for the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Center, and for existing gravity measurements compiled from 5 sources. More than 7,000 gravity measurements were processed to complete Bouguer and isostatic gravity anomalies to provide information on crustal structure, such as the geometry of Cenozoic basins developed along and between faults. Density and magnetic property measurements were also compiled from older sources and combined with new density and magnetic susceptibility measurements of hand samples in the region. Extensive magnetic susceptibility measurements on outcrops of plutonic rocks were collected in the Grass Valley wilderness area.
