Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: September 24, 2026 at 12:41 AM | Dataset Last Updated: September 21, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This child item data set contains geospatial data layers in shapefile (.shp) and raster (.tif) formats representing karst terrain, hydrogeology, soils, land cover, and surface features for St. Lawrence County, New York. The dataset includes the following attached files: 1) StLawrence_Land_Use.zip: Raster dataset (.tif) defining land use/land cover categories across the county. 2) StLawrence_xxcm.zip: Shapefile containing modeled closed depressions identified at 10-cm and 30-cm depth thresholds (with a minimum area of 100 m^2) derived from 1- to 2-m resolution bare-earth DEMs, with false positives filtered out. 3) StLawrence_xxcm_raw.zip: Shapefile containing unfiltered modeled closed depressions identified at 10-cm and 30-cm depth thresholds. 4) StLawrence_Surficial_Geology.zip: Shapefile representing surficial geologic units. 5) StLawrence_Bedrock_Elevation_Contours.zip: Shapefile of the contour lines derived from the interpolated bedrock surface elevation. 6) StLawrence_Bedrock_Elevation_Surface.zip: Raster surface (.tif) of the interpolated bedrock elevation. 7) StLawrence_Bedrock_Geology.zip: Shapefile representing refined bedrock geology polygons mapped at 1:24,000 scale. 8) StLawrence_Groundwater_Elevation_Contours.zip: Shapefile of the contour lines derived from the interpolated water-table elevation. 9) StLawrence_Groundwater_Elevation_Surface.zip: Raster surface (.tif) of the interpolated water-table elevation. 10) StLawrence_Soil_Ksat.zip: Shapefile containing soil classification boundaries, soil thickness over bedrock, and saturated hydraulic conductivity (K_sat) attributes derived from gSSURGO. 11) StLawrence_Wells.zip: Shapefile containing well and borehole location data, along with attribute information for total well depth, depth to bedrock, groundwater depth, and bedrock lithology compiled from NYSDEC and USGS databases. All spatial datasets are organized by county and restricted to 7.5-minute quadrangles in which the majority area falls within St. Lawrence County and contains karst-prone bedrock units. Methods for compiling and processing these layers are detailed in Sporleder and others (2021) and the accompanying metadata record.
