The TransBorder Freight Data Forecast Model is a specialized analytical tool developed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). Its primary purpose is to "close the gap" between real-time economic activity and the official, validated trade data released by the government.
Because official transborder statistics (derived from U.S. Census Bureau trade data) typically carry a two-month processing delay, this model provides stakeholders with a "nowcast"—an estimated view of current freight volumes before the official numbers are finalized.
