Field-Based Hydraulic Model Survey Data

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: September 10, 2026 at 08:52 PM | Dataset Last Updated: June 29, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This component contains U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) field survey data files for 30 selected stream crossing locations in Massachusetts. The Field-Based Hydraulic Model Survey Data.zip file contains surveyed land-surface and river-bottom elevation points along various cross sections (approach, upstream face, downstream face, and exit), surveyed points that describe the structure opening, as well as supplemental information that documented each location in photographs and sketches for each of the 30 stream crossing locations. The file name for each stream crossing is identified by the survey identification number followed by the name of the stream (for example: 7_Galloway_Brook). Within each stream crossing file are five categorical folders titled: “Control”, “Data”, "Notes”, “Photos”, and “Sketches” for each crossing location. These folders contain one or more files with data in Comma-separated values files (CSV), images in .jpg format, pdf files, or files in other formats. One stream (30_Churchill_Brook) had several different crossings surveyed with associated files for each, where the numbers indicate the cross-section number (e.g., 0100), which increase in the upstream direction. Folder “Control” contains survey data and supplemental information in .csv and/or .jpg formats for points used for survey control at each location. Folder “Data” contains original survey data in .csv file format. Folder “Notes” contains scanned images in .jpg or .pdf format of the corresponding page or pages of hand-written survey notes from the original field notebook. Folder “Photos” contains digital photographs in .jpg format of each crossing location. Folder “Sketches” contains scanned images in .jpg format that show a hand-drawn sketch of the cross section from the original field notebook. For some cross sections the sketch and notes appear on the same page in the field notebook, therefore the same file from the “Notes” folder is repeated here. However, certain crossings have a separate hand-drawn sketch. In each of the above folders, other file types may also exist for certain locations.
