Evaluating seedling traits, maintenance, and effective-cost to support tropical forest restoration practices
A total of 1796 tree seedlings comprised of 11 species (eight families) native to the region were selected to research the possible influence of plant traits and weeding maintenance on seedling survival. The data set includes five years of plant measurements and survival data (fate) for 1796 individual seedlings planted throughout 22 plots in 4 stands with 50% of the plots receiving weeding maintenance (noted as 1 in the maintenance column) and the other 50% without (noted as 0). One stand also had a one-time fertilizer application in 6 of its 12 plots. Annually collected plant data included seedling height, leaf count, percent of leaf damage, and cause of damage, noted with the survey date and the age of the plant (time since planting) in days. The original seedling measurements at the time of planting are also noted with the same characteristics that were surveyed annually. Each line represents an interval and the height, leaf count, and percent damage of the seedling at the start of the interval is noted with the notation “start”. The precipitation amount for the previous year (ending in the current survey month) is noted as “Prior_yr_June_May”. Site data includes the stand identification (fk_parentid) and plot identification (fk_location).
The tree taxa data base provides the taxonomic name and corresponding Catalogue of Life code, the alpha code used in the data analysis (first two letters of the species' genus and the first two letters of its species name), the taxa's common name, and its family.
