ESPA processing workflow for on-demand global Landsat evapotranspiration
Actual evapotranspiration (ET) is a key variable for understanding land–atmosphere interactions and for assessing water use in agricultural, ecological, and hydrologic systems. This data release provides global, field‑scale ET data generated from Landsat observations using the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Science Processing Architecture (ESPA). The dataset includes cloud‑free Landsat scenes from 1982 (Landsat 4) through the present Landsat missions. ET is produced as a Provisional Level‑3 Science Product using the Operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) model. Model inputs include Landsat surface temperature, reference ET, vegetation index, and net radiation.
The data represent on‑demand ET outputs processed for individual Landsat overpasses and delivered as tiled geospatial products. These ET data support applications in water‑use estimation, agricultural monitoring, hydrologic assessment, and land‑surface process studies. The release documents the processing workflow, model inputs, and data characteristics to enable consistent interpretation and use of the ET products.
