ER-2 Meteorological and Navigation Data WH2yMSIE

Published by NASA/MSFC/GHRC | National Aeronautics and Space Administration | Catalog Last Checked: June 25, 2026 at 01:42 PM | Dataset Last Updated: June 23, 2026
The NASA ER-2 Meteorological and Navigation Data WHyMSIE dataset contains information recorded by the onboard navigation and data collection systems of the NASA ER-2 high-altitude research aircraft. In addition to typical navigation data (e.g., date, time, latitude/longitude, and altitude) it also contains outside meteorological parameters such as wind speed, wind direction, and temperature. These data were collected during the Westcoast and Heartland Hyperspectral Microwave Sensor Intensive Experiment (WHyMSIE) field campaign. WHyMSIE aimed to capture a wide variety of thermodynamic, moisture, and planetary boundary layer regimes across a variety of surface types. The ER-2 flew over a variety of land and ocean environments. Comparing hyperspectral microwave retrievals from CoSMIR-H with in situ temperature and humidity information will allow for scientific advancement of remote-sensing techniques into the hyperspectral microwave era and improved understanding of the planetary boundary layer at different measurement scales. The WHyMSIE meteorological and navigation dataset files are available from October 18, 2024 through November 13, 2024, in ICARTT format. This is an ASCII format with metadata requirements.
