Diplocardia deborahae, A New Earthworm Species (Annelida: Oligochaeta: Acanthodrilidae) from Eastern Tennessee, USA.
Field Methods:
Hand collect live earthworm specimens underneath small logs/branches and rocks. Any logs and rocks flipped will be restored to original position.
Sites for collection will be along Fighting Gap Creek Road, Big Walnut Lookout, Chimney Campsite, and Buckeye Trail in Great Smoky Mountain NP near Gatlinburg,
TN. These four sites were originally collected for earthworm specimens between 1969-1973 by Ranger Tom C. Matthews and Dr. John W. Reynolds.
Specimens will be processed for fixation and preservation offsite in a research lab.
