Digital orthophotographs of the Yukon and Tanana Rivers, collected July, 2025

The USGS collaborated with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to acquire digital orthophotography of the Yukon and Tanana Rivers in Alaska spanning reaches of approximately 73 kilometers along the Yukon and 11 kilometers along the Tanana River. Data were collected on July 2, 2025, at a flying height above ground level of 940 meters for the Yukon and 910 meters for the Tanana River. Images were captured using a Phase One iXM-100MP camera that provided standard red-green-blue (RGB) color images. A GNSS position and time stamps for each image, along with information on the camera characteristics and DEMs of the study areas, were then used as input to the Simactive Correlator 3D photogrammetric software package to produce digital orthophotos in the NAD83 UTM zone 6N projected coordinate system. The pixel sizes of these output images were 0.11 m for the Yukon and 0.10 meters for the Tanana River. This data release provides access to individual orthophotos as TIFF files with associated *.tfw world files. The data are organized into a series of compressed zip files. The images included in this data release encompass the locations where field measurements were made with an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). The zip files are organized by river, flight line (FL), and range in image numbers packaged within each zip file. Due to file size limitations, several zip files were necessary to include the entire range of images along a particular flight line. These subsets are denoted by A, B, C, or D as needed.
