DID(IT) - Country of Origin Information
The Refugee, Asylum and International Operations (RAIO) Syria Country of Origin Information Tool contains country of origin information, which includes information on events that have taken place in Syria. The information captured from the publicly available open sources, is associated with a specific time, location, and source. The publicly available open sources included social media postings where news organizations tracked events via Twitter and Facebook media posts. Social media information obtained from publicly available sources such as, BBC News, Al Jazeera, CNN, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is reviewed and used to obtain a snapshot of activities/events within the location the applicant spent time in. Additional sources analyzed included accumulated public social media reports from oppositions groups compiled by the Open-Source Center. Original online public sources for Open-Source Center are derived data is reviewed to ensure data obtained is non-classified. Other publicly available sources used to obtain information from datasets compiled by other research organizations is the Information Handling Services (IHS) , Janes, or the Carter Center. Tool maintains PII as the Refugee Case Number is used to retrieve information from the databases
