DAWN Public Use Files
The Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) dataset series comprises SAMHSA data collections designed to monitor emergency department visits associated with substance use and related health consequences in the United States. DAWN provides information on substances involved, patient characteristics, and characteristics and outcomes of drug-related emergency department visits. Across its collection periods, DAWN supports surveillance of substance-related morbidity, analysis of trends, identification of emerging drug threats, and public health research and decision-making. Collection methods, coverage, and statistical comparability vary across DAWN periods and individual datasets.
