Date of Last Earthquake (DOLE) compilation for use in time-dependent seismic hazard analyses

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: May 05, 2026 at 10:07 PM | Dataset Last Updated: November 04, 2024 at 12:00 AM
We provide information of the date of last earthquake across the U.S. where available. This information is captured by two geometries — line features (“HistDOLE_v1”) and point features (“PaleoDOLE_v1”). The line features describe surface ruptures constrained by historical or near-historical observations, and point features describe paleoseismic observations of the most recent earthquake at a given trench location. These compilations support future development of time-dependent seismic hazard analyses. Given constraints in their (presently) narrow application, these data (particularly the point data) are not meant to be comprehensive of known or inferred paleoseismic observations across the U.S.
