Dataset Collection Informing the North American Biodiversity and Climate Change Assessment
The North American Biodiversity and Climate Change Assessment (BCCA) will characterize the state of understanding concerning key linkages between biodiversity and climate change, identify critical knowledge gaps, and summarize implications for biodiversity and climate change policy in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and adjacent regions as appropriate. The collection of datasets evaluate available knowledge regarding climate projections, the direct effects of climate change on biodiversity, drivers of biodiversity change, their effects on ecosystem services and nature's contribution to people, and effects occurring across jurisdictional boundaries in North America. Understanding the interplay between biodiversity and climate change across national boundaries is critical for the implementation of effective and lasting solutions to climate change and for maintaining biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. A collection of datasets were created to evaluate the current knowledge on these topics up until 2024 and inform the development of assessment chapters. The dataset collection includes systematic literature review outputs, statistical and geospatial analysis outputs using pre-existing climate projections, species, and ecosystems datasets. These datasets were used to inform discussions on chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the North American Biodiversity and Climate Change Assessment.
