Data to support a Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool for Wisconsin

Metadata Updated: July 20, 2024

A Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool (GW-NDST) for wells in Wisconsin was developed to assist resource managers with assessing how legacy and possible future nitrate leaching rates, combined with groundwater lag times and potential denitrification, influence nitrate concentrations in wells (Juckem et al. 2024). Running and using the GW-NDST software involves downloading the software code (version 1.1.0) from the code repository (https://doi.org/10.5066/P13ETB4Q) required to run the Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool for Wisconsin", downloading GIS input data (child data release "GIS files required to run the Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool for Wisconsin") and a parameter uncertainty file (child data release "Parameter ensemble files required to run the Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool for Wisconsin"), and installing a specific python environment containing the libraries needed to run the software. Complete instructions for installing the python environment, downloading the software and data, and running the tool are provided in the readme.md file for this data release; the most up-to-date instructions are provided at the code repository (https://doi.org/10.5066/P13ETB4Q). This parent data release contains child data releases that include the GIS and parameter uncertainty data mentioned above, plus data releases that supported the development of the GW-NDST but are not required for running the tool.
