Data from: Predicting plant responses to mycorrhizae: integrating evolutionary history and plant traits
The study by Reinhart et al. (2012) relied on experimental data published by Drs. Wilson & Harnett (1998). Wilson & Harnett conducted a 16-week mycorrhizal responsiveness experiment. The exact date of the experiment is unknown but occurred prior to the year of publication (<1998) and presumably at their reported affiliate of Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, USA. Their experiment included 95 tallgrass prairie species (36 grasses, 59 forbs). They collected a low-phosphorus prairie soil (Chase silty clay loam, fine montmorillonitic, mesic Aquic Argiudoll) from Konza Prairie (Manhattan, Kansas). Seeds of 95 plant species were germinated and transplanted into pots containing either sterilized soil or nonsterile soil containing native fungi. Plants were grown for 16 weeks in a controlled greenhouse, watered daily, and fertilized biweekly. After harvest, shoot and root biomass were measured, and root subsamples were stained and microscopically examined to quantify mycorrhizal colonization.Dataset includes a data file and metadate file (readme).USDA appropriated funds: 5434-21630-002-00D to Drs.
