Data from ex vivo Kainic acid proteomic studies: Hippocampus and Cortex proteomic results

Published by U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) | U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | Catalog Last Checked: April 21, 2026 at 08:07 PM | Dataset Last Updated: March 21, 2025
Dataset includes whole proteome results following acute kainic acid exposure in adult Long Evans rats. Samples are ex vivo brain tissues, specifically the hippocampus, cortex, and cerebellum regions, collected at 3 or 24h after exposure following perfusion (samples stored at -80oC until proteomic analyses were performed). Using a modified SPEED protocol, proteomic results are assessed via LC-MS/MS and processed using Proteome Discoverer (performed to as previously described: Winnik, et al., 2023, J Proteome Res., doi: 10.1021/acs.jproteome.3c00172). Data are reported as dose response relationships (comparison of vehicle control to 3, 4.2, or 6 mg/mL kainic acid), time course effects (3h vs. 24h by dose group), as well as assessment of vehicle control compared to cage control groups, all for both regions examined. Data for hippocampus and cortex regions are presented as two separate analyses (1 & 2), with details noted in sample-filename files. Analysis 1 includes n=6/group for vehicle controls, cage control and 6 mg/mL Kainic acid; Analysis 2 includes n=4/group for vehicle controls, cage control and 6 mg/mL Kainic acid, n=10/group for 3 and 4.2 mg/mL kainic acid. The data for the cerebellar region is contained as a single analysis (n=10/group).
