Data for Revealing Statistically Robust Strain Rate Effects on the Mechanical Performance of Pristine Single Fiber Aramids

Published by National Institute of Standards and Technology | National Institute of Standards and Technology | Catalog Last Checked: September 02, 2026 at 07:19 PM | Dataset Last Updated: April 02, 2026
This dataset consists of experimental data from testing high strength fibers under four quasi-static rates (QS) on a single fiber test machine and under high-strain rate (HSR) on a single fiber Kolsky bar. Two poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide (PPTA) aramid fiber types were tested in the pristine condition. The data is first organized by material type in the main folder. Within the material type folder, they are organized by crosshead speed (for QS) or by the designation HSR (for Kolsky bar tests). See the "data_summary.txt" and "readme.txt" files in the main folder and individual notes files in each subfolder for descriptions of the included data and the associated manuscript for complete details and interpretations. The "scripts" subfolder provides helpful Matlab scripts for statistical analyses of the data. The dataset consists of about 45 files in formats: .xlsx, .mat, .m, .png, and .txt
