Data for A 3-D Seismic Velocity Model for Cascadia with Shallow Soils & Topography, Version 1.7

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: May 05, 2026 at 08:19 PM | Dataset Last Updated: September 23, 2025 at 12:00 AM
This data release contains three netCDF4 files containing grid points of P- and S-wave seismic velocities in Cascadia. This model is an update to Stephenson et al. (2017) Open-File Report 2017-1152, and contains a newly added shallow soil model and optional user-specified topography. A description of the model and its development is provided in the associated Open-File Report. The grid points are given in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 10T, and the grid point depths are given in meters below sea level. The model region extends approximately from 40.2°N to 50°N latitude, and from 121°W to 129°W longitude. The maximum depth of the model region is 59,400 meters. The netCDF4 files range in size from approximately 750 megabytes to 6.2 gigabytes. Water offshore the Pacific Coast is assigned a value of -999 for both the P- and S-wave velocities.
