| description | This archive contains a deployment log and curated data from 225 Lotek Nano-Lat 2900-series archival geolocation tags that were deployed by the U.S. Antarctic Marine Living Resources Program, Southwest Fisheries Science Center, NOAA Fisheries during field studies on pinnipeds and seabirds in the austral winters of 2011, 2012, and 2014. The deployment log provides information on the date and location of tag deployment, as well and species and site identifiers. The curated data contain once-daily estimates of latitude and longitude from individual seabirds and pinnipeds that were tracked during the non-breeding period (winter) from Cape Shirreff, Livingston Island (-62.47S,-60.77W) and Admiralty Bay, King George Island (-62.178S,-58.446W), South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Data from stationary control tags that were deployed to assess uncertainty and bias in position estimates are also included. In total, the archive contains daily location estimates for 74 Antarctic fur seals (Arctocephalus gazella) from the austral winters of 2011, 2012, and 2014, 4 leopard seals (Hydrurga leptonyx) from the austral winter of 2012, 32 Adelie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) from the austral winter of 2012, 84 chinstrap penguins (P. antarcticus) from the austral winters of 2012 and 2014, 24 brown skuas (Stercorarius antarcticus) from the austral winter of 2012, and 7 control tags from the austral winters of 2011, 2012 and 2014. Individual tags reported locations for between 5 and 421 days, with an average duration across all tags of 180 days. The data include daily estimates of sunrise and sunset at each position, and a minimum daily sea temperature estimated from the upper 50m of the water column. Positions estimates have been corrected for bias and error as described in Hinke et al. 2015. A logical field derived from speed filtering with a maximum velocity of 3 m/s is provided to optionally filter unlikely position estimates.
