CTD, Short-lived radioisotope, sediment sample location data, and other sediment data types collected aboard R/V Weatherbird cruise WB-0816 in the Gulf of Mexico from 2016-08-05 to 2016-09-09 (NCEI Accession 0226799)

This dataset contains CTD, short-lived radioisotope (SLRad), sediment sample location data, and other sediment data types obtained from sediment cores collected aboard R/V Weatherbird cruise WB-0816 in the Gulf of Mexico from 2016-08-05 to 2016-09-09. Other sediment data types included are bulk density/porewater, sediment core photographs, and sediment texture and composition data. The CTD profiles were done at 22 locations using Sea-Bird SBE25 and Sea-Bird SBE43 from 2016-08-07 to 2016-09-09. Also included within the CTD data are the locations and grab and multicore sediment samples and their allotments between investigators. Bulk density/porewater data reports measurements of sediment sample wet weight (g) and dry weight (g) for core sub-samples at 2mm sampling intervals for “surficial unit” and 5mm sampling resolution intervals to the base of cores. SLRad data and sediment texture and composition data were generated for selected core sub-samples. For sediment-core photograph data, sediment cores were longitudinally split and photographed with a Nikon D5100 digital camera with a scale in metric units (cm and mm) for a visual representation of sediment stratigraphy, color, and visual properties.
