Playgrounds with Dedicated Children's Areas (DCAs)

Published by data.cityofnewyork.us | City of New York | Catalog Last Checked: May 11, 2026 at 02:31 PM | Dataset Last Updated: May 07, 2026
This dataset represents Playgrounds with Dedicated Children's Areas in NYC Parks, previously known as Children’s Play Areas (CPAs). Each DCA is a designated space featuring play equipment specifically designed for children (i.e. play structures and spray showers) and is mapped as a geometric shape within a park property. While commonly known as playgrounds, the term "playground" is avoided because some properties or subproperties labeled as "playgrounds" may include features like adult fitness equipment or handball and basketball courts and may not contain play equipment for children. Explore the Data Dictionary Note: The schema and methodology of the dataset was updated in 2024, replacing the previous version from 2019. Play equipment is tracked via the Parks Inspection Program and the Capital Tracker. Parks that are currently rated by the Parks Inspection Program and contain play equipment are considered active Dedicated Children's Areas. Please see the All Sites (Mapped) dataset on Open Data for more detail.
