Chapter 3 Dataset Collection Informing the Direct Effects of Climate Change on Biodiversity in North America
The dataset collection for Chapter 3: Direct Effects of Climate Change on Biodiversity of the North American Biodiversity and Climate Change Assessment are used to take a broad view of biodiversity based on the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) definition encompassing the variety of life forms across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial systems in North America. Understanding the impacts of contemporary climate change on the ecology of organisms, groups of species, and whole ecosystems is a research priority. Biological diversity encompasses the variation of the living world at many levels: the abundance and distribution of genetic, morphological, taxonomic, and functional attributes over time and space, from within species (differences among individuals and populations), among species (communities) and tied to function and services (ecosystems).
