Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 06:07 AM | Dataset Last Updated: July 23, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset contains point-level avian point count data for 54 species and vegetation survey data at 52 wetland easements in Iowa collected in 2022-2023 used in a multispecies analysis. Dataset also includes site-level avian point count data for select species collected in 2007-2009 and 2022-2023 alongside covariate data that were used in single-species analyses. There were 7-10 points per property. Bird surveys were conducted between 15 May and 31 July each year. Vegetation data were collected between mid-July and early September each year. Avian data are formatted for occupancy analyses (presence-absence only). Point-level covariate data include percent emergent vegetation in a 50 m radius, indicator variables for the presence of water and trees/shrubs, mean diameter at breast height of trees, mean visual obstruction, mean litter depth, year, percent cover of forbs, grasses, and woody plants, property ID, point ID, time of bird survey (in minutes after sunrise), ordinal date for bird survey, easement age, and observer of bird survey. Site-level covariate data include a unique property ID, date for each survey visit, period in which data were collected, the number of points surveyed, cluster schemes, and the proportion of points surveyed at each visit.
