Bering Sea Grain Size Data, Diatom Counts and Sea Ice Reconstruction during Marine Isotope Stage 11

This data release includes four datasets in support of the manuscript titled, Regional Variations in Sea Ice, Primary Productivity and Ocean Circulation in the Bering Sea During Marine Isotope Stage 11, by Natalie Thompson and Beth Caissie, published in Geochemistry, Geophysics, and Geosystems. The first data table is a data dictionary to accompany the diatom data in dataset #2. Dataset #2 includes diatom assemblage data for IODP Exp 323, Site U1343. We include relative percent abundances for five species included in the sea ice proxy tool published by Nesterovich and Caissie, 2026 (https://rconnect.usgs.gov/seaiceproxy/). Also included are relative percent abundances of Chaetoceros resting spores, other centric species, and other pennate species. This data set further includes diatoms per gram of sediment and a sea ice reconstruction presented in spring (March, April, May, June) sea ice concentration (%). The third and fourth datasets are grain size data for IODP Exp 323, Site U1342. They each contain the Dx 10, Dx 50, and Dx 90 metrics, a sum of weight percent of particles greater than 250 microns, and the weight percent of particles in each of the 101 bins the Malvern Mastersizer 3000 exports. Dataset #3 shows the grain size distribution of the raw sediment (all particles regardless of provenance), while dataset #4 shows the grain size distribution of only lithogenic particles, i.e. the biogenic particles were dissolved prior to analysis.
