Benthic algae and plankton occurrence to support environmental DNA surveys at nine sites in the Tualatin River Basin, Oregon

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 04:58 AM | Dataset Last Updated: June 22, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Dataset includes qualitative benthic algae and plankton occurrence data from 148 discrete samples of plankton (n=58) collected with an 80-micron mesh plankton net and streambed sediment (n=90) collected using a pipettor and(or) petri dish and spatula. Samples were collected, placed on ice, and analyzed within 1-3 days. Multiple wet mount slides were prepared and examined with a Leica DM1000 light microscope under 40x, 400x, and 1000x magnification. The various organisms were identified to genus using Prescott (1978) and Wehr and Sheath (2003).
