The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a health-related telephone survey that collects state data (as well as the District of Columbia and some US territories) about primarily adult US residents regarding their health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, health-care access, and use of preventive services. BRFSS completes more than 400,000 adult interviews each year. Survey questions regarding asthma used to determine lifetime and current asthma. (CDC/NCEH/DEHSP/AAQB uses these adult asthma data [accessed via CDC's BRFSS colleagues] as is [no questions added] to obtain state-level estimates of adult asthma prevalence
