Published by Yakutat Tlingit Tribe | Department of Energy | Catalog Last Checked: August 03, 2026 at 01:04 AM | Dataset Last Updated: July 27, 2026 at 03:42 PM
This surface wave dataset from Yakutat, Alaska is the result of a wave resource assessment conducted by the Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) and Pacific Marine Energy Center (PMEC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). This work was based on recommendations from prior research motivated by local government at the City and Borough of Yakutat, funded by the US Department of the Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Environmental Studies Program and by FY23 state of Alaska capital appropriation, and described in detail by Brown et al. (in review) and Kasper et. al. (2021). The aim of the study was to evaluate marine hydrokinetic energy (MHK) wave resources offshore Cannon Beach in Yakutat, Alaska to determine the feasibility of potential MHK development in future to support meeting community energy needs with local renewable energy. The dataset includes raw and processed Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data files from fieldwork conducted in 2018-2019. Descriptions of the data files and processing steps are included in the metadata. The Yakutat Tlingit Tribe (YTT) would appreciate being contacted by users of this dataset, primarily to understand how the dataset is being used and if it could lead to future developments that could benefit our community. Please contact the Tribe via email to Ltoogu.e Stephen Alefaio Adams, Tribal Operations Director at sadams@ytttribe.org.
