Active Seismic Data Collected Near Beaver Pond Locations in Storrs, CT and Willington, CT in Summer/Fall 2025
This data release documents inferred depth to bedrock adjacent to beaver ponds and associated floodplain environments using active and passive seismic measurements collected at three sites: the University of Connecticut (UConn) Forest in Storrs, Connecticut; Fenton-Ruby Park in Willington, Connecticut; and Gunnison County, Colorado, USA. Active one-dimensional Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) data were collected at the UConn Forest and Fenton-Ruby Park sites on September 22, 2025, to estimate one-dimensional shear-wave velocity (Vs) structure. MASW was not collected at the Gunnison County site due to time and logistical constraints. Shear-wave velocity models and Vs estimates were developed using GRILLA software (MoHo, S.R.L.). An average Vs of 271 m/s was calculated, which is consistent with unconsolidated floodplain sediments in beaver-influenced valley bottoms. These data support investigations of subsurface structure and sediment thickness in beaver-modified landscapes.
