The volatility of silicon in HF digests was examined with synthetic solutions as well as soil and mine waste samples. A digestion scheme was optimized to achieve complete dissolution, avoid loss of volatile silicon species and produce sample solutions that can be directly analyzed by ICP-MS. The performance of the method performance was validated by analysis of a number plant and tissue certified reference materials for silicon by ICP-MS. The method was then applied to the determination of silicon from lung biopsy tissues obtained from military personnel and coal miners.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P9VLL9VJ", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.65440eebd34ee4b6e05bee4a.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_65440eebd34ee4b6e05bee4a", "keyword": ["Digestion", "Elemental analysis", "GGGSC", "Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center", "Inductively coupled plasma spectrometry", "Lung tissue", "MRP", "Method development", "Mineral Resources Program", "Silicon", "USGS:65440eebd34ee4b6e05bee4a", "environment", "health"], "modified": "2024-01-30T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-180.0000, -90.0000, 180.0000, 90.0000", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Method development for determination of trace amounts of silicon in hydrofluoric acid digests of biological samples and lung biopsy tissues by ICP-MS"}
