This does not change the integrity of the data but allows for easier visualization. Zeros in the data indicate that there is no self-employed data based on the ENOW NES definitions of ocean related economic activity. -9999 indicates that data have been suppressed to avoid disclosing confidential information provided to the US Census Bureau. Conceptual Consistency To ensure the quality of the data, we checked that all data was present for the ENOW NES defined geography, verified and formatted data types, ensured that suppressed data were flagged as -9999, and normalized dollar figures into real numbers.
