Samples were collected during the 2021-2024 monitoring seasons from 26 National Parks across the United States. In 2021, samples were analyzed using traditional light microscopy, while 2022 samples were analyzed using imaging flow cytometry. Data include phytoplankton and cyanobacterial taxa identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level, along with estimates of abundance (reported as both natural units and cells), biovolume; supporting cyanotoxin and water quality data are also included. Cyanotoxin data were also collected during the 2021-2024 monitoring seasons through the Cyanobacteria Monitoring Collaborative CyanoMonitoring Program. These data include cyanotoxin concentrations, as measured by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) for anatoxins, beta-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA), cylindrospermopsins, microsystins plus nodularins, and saxatoxins. All data are reported as raw calculated values and comply with USGS open data requirements to ensure public accessibility of research data.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P1KATYJH", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.6892471ad4be0275eef5cd23.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_6892471ad4be0275eef5cd23", "keyword": ["Acadia National Park", "Apostle Islands National Lakeshore", "Arches National Park", "Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area", "Buffalo National River", "Canaveral National Seashore", "Cape Cod National Seashore", "Curecanti National Recreation Area", "Death Valley National Park", "Fire Island National Seashore", "Great Basin National Park", "Hovenweep National Monument", "Isle Royale National Park", "Lake Mead National Recreation Area", "National Mall and Memorial Parks", "Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument", "Padre Island National Shoreline", "Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial", "Sitka National Historic Park", "Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore", "St. Croix National Scenic Waterway", "Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve", "Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve", "USGS:6892471ad4be0275eef5cd23", "Voyageurs National Park", "Yosemite National Park", "Zion National Park", "algae", "biota", "freshwater ecosystems", "marine ecosystems", "phytoplankton", "surface water (non-marine)", "systematics and taxonomy"], "modified": "2026-03-16T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-147.0410, 24.7668, -66.6650, 60.5438", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Phytoplankton and Cyanotoxin Data for Coastal and Shoreline Areas of National Parks, 2021-2024"}
